Water from Toowoomba Regional Council’s Mt Kynoch scheme was selected as the state’s top drop in the 2016 Ixom Best of the Best Queensland Water Taste Test with around 60 delegates participating in a blind taste off of 14 samples from across Queensland. A panel of water experts then selected the winner from the top five entries, using a scientifically proven water wheel to judge the entries by colour, odour and taste.
Toowoomba Regional Council General Manager Water and Waste Services Kevin Flanagan said the win was a great outcome for Council
“The win can be attributed to the efforts of the hard working and dedicated staff that manage the provision of high quality potable water from catchment through treatment and distribution to our customers.
There was a lot of diversity in the samples, with samples ranging from the Gold Coast Desalination Plant in the south to Hinchinbrook in the north and the Central Highlands. The sample from the Gold Coast desalination plant was selected as the runner up.
Toowoomba's Mt Kynoch sample will be entered into the Water of Origin competition against NSW which will be held in June 2017 as well as the Best Tap Water in Australia Competition in 2017, with the winner of that competition going into the International Water Tasting Competition held in the USA.
