Discharge of Treated Water

Reuse of treated water can occur through irrigation, evaporation, or discharge to the environment. Strict standards are set by the environmental regulator on the quality of water that can be discharged to the environment by irrigation or direct input into waterways. The conditions and discharge requirements for all Sewage Treatment Plants in Queensland are set by the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection through the Development Approval process and managed under ERA 63 of the Environmental Protection (Water) Policy (2009).
