Water Connections Tour 2026

About this event

The Water Connections Tour allows participants to gain insights into the issues and challenges of providing essential urban water services and delivering key water projects in regional and remote Queensland communities (including, the servicing of island communities). The tour will run from 11 to 14 May 2026.

Goals of this tour:

  • Occasion to bring together Local and State government officials to gain first-hand insights into key water projects, innovation and risks across North Queensland. 
  • Opportunity to discuss issues associated with risk and compliance for both water and wastewater treatment assets with relevant Local Government personnel and political leaders.
  • Build trust between critical stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration.

The 2026 Water Connections Tour will focus on the northern region of Queensland from Mackay to Townsville with the following site tours lined up:

Day 1: Nebo Road Water Treatment Plant, Mackay South Water Recycling Facility and the decommissioned Bloomsbury Plant.

Day 2: Bowen Water Treatment Plant, Ayr Brandon Macroalgae Bioremediation Facility and South Ayr bores.

Day 3: Magnetic Island Water Recycling Facility and Horseshoe Bay Water Recycling Facility.

Day 4: Advanced Recycled Water Plant at Cleveland Bay.

There are no open registrations for this event, the study tour is open to government personnel seeking to increase their knowledge of urban water systems and issues impacting the communities, infrastructure assets and workforce. Contact Georgina Davis for more information.
