The session examines the engineering relationship between pipeline water velocity, system resistance and pumping energy across a range of water industry applications. It demonstrates how velocity influences friction losses, pumping specific energy and operating costs, and why pipeline hydraulics is often the dominant driver of long-term pumping performance.
The presentation also explores pipeline performance degradation and its effect on pumping specific energy throughout the life of a pipeline asset, providing practical engineering insight applicable to water supply, wastewater, recycled water and irrigation systems.
