Important - Laboratory Services and Queensland Water Directory

We have received contact over the last couple of days about a letter sent to councils from Queensland Health Forensic and Scientific Services advising of the cessation of many of the analytical services available to Local Government.
We have been advised by the Office of the Water Supply Regulator that a retraction is about to be issued. Some of these analyses are considered essential community services and we are told that the letter was a result of an internal communication error.
Announcements were made some months ago around budget cuts at the QH labs and while it seems that these important services are protected for now, we have been looking at alternatives.
E-flash #183 provided details of the DEWS policy on the use of commercial E. coli testing kits, and we have recently established the Queensland Water Directory on our web site which we aim to grow over time to provide “hard to find” service providers. To get the ball rolling we have listed a number of qldwater members which have laboratories and provide analytical services. We are happy to list similar details for any other member wishing to promote their labs. The Laboratory Services Directory is available here.
