It was a pleasure to announce the recipients of the 2025 Emerging Leaders Scholarships at this year’s qldwaterAnnual Forum, proudly sponsored by Arup. These scholarships support the next generation of water professionals by funding travel and accommodation to attend the Forum — and this year, we were thrilled to welcome:

  •  Cameron Powell – Graduate Engineer, Projects & Assets at Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council
  •  Nathan Simm – Operations Engineer at Townsville City Council

Cameron, nearing completion of his dual degree in Engineering & Science, is passionate about tackling Australia’s unique water and waste challenges, especially in rural and remote communities. His work has sparked a deep commitment to collaborative, community-focused solutions that protect our environment and ecosystems.

Nathan, Townsville City Council’s young water engineer, has already faced major challenges — including flood recovery and infrastructure resilience. His leadership during these events earned him a higher duties role as Principal Engineer for Water and Wastewater Treatment, where he continues to grow and make a meaningful impact.

Congratulations to Cameron and Nathan — your dedication and vision inspire us all. We’re proud to support your journey and excited to see how you’ll shape the future of water in Queensland and beyond.
