Honouring Dedication: Wayne Siganto Named 2025 Operator of the Year (Civil / Allrounder)
Date: 31-Oct-2025

The Operator of the Year (Civil / Allrounder) Award recognises individuals who embody dedication, innovation, and community service in the water industry; those who consistently go above and beyond to deliver safe, reliable, and high-quality services to their communities.

We are proud to announce Wayne Siganto from Mareeba Shire Council as the 2025 recipient of this prestigious award!

With over 30 years of service, Wayne has been a cornerstone of Mareeba’s water and wastewater operations. Starting his career with a traineeship in 1997, Wayne has grown into a respected leader and mentor, now serving as Treatment Plant Supervisor. His commitment to excellence is evident in every aspect of his work - from maintaining spotless, well-run facilities to mentoring five trainees, three of whom continue to serve in the council’s operations team.

Wayne’s calm and adaptable leadership has been especially critical during emergencies. During Cyclone Jasper, when the Kuranda Water Treatment Plant intake was washed away, Wayne swiftly implemented an emergency solution that ensured uninterrupted water supply to residents, a solution that remains effective today.

His technical expertise has been vital in managing major upgrades at the Mareeba Water Treatment Plant, where he ensured seamless integration of new systems while maintaining uninterrupted service. Wayne’s proactive approach to environmental compliance, safety, and process monitoring has earned the trust of regulatory authorities and the respect of his peers.

Beyond the workplace, Wayne is a proud supporter of his community and culture. He encourages his grandchildren’s participation in NAIDOC Week, helping foster cultural awareness and pride through traditional dance and storytelling.

Wayne receives a perpetual trophy for Mareeba Shire Council, a personal trophy, and $1,500 toward professional development.

Congratulations, Wayne! Your leadership, dedication, and community spirit continue to inspire us all.
