Our next qldwater regional event will be in Barcaldine on 19th and 20th May, hosted by Barcaldine Regional Council. Parts of the program will again be available online, but we hope to get as many people in person as we can.
Note that you will need to sort out your travel and accommodation logistics nice and early as limited flights are available.
Early bird registrations will be complimentary again for qldwater members, with a dinner planned on the evening of the 19th and full day conference on the 20th. There will also be a site tour in the morning of the 20th May.
The event theme will be focussed on service delivery in the West and we hope to be able to showcase some of the activities of the Remote Area Planning and Development Board’s Water and Sewerage Alliance which is supported through QWRAP.
A preliminary version of the program is available on the event website.
Please contact Naomi (ncarragher@qldwater.com.au) if you are interested in sponsoring this event.

The Australian Government proposed a number of amendments “that could better balance and modernise the operation of the carrier powers and immunities” framework on 1 March (see eflash #473). Deadlines were extended with the final submissions due on 9 April.
qldwater has worked with the Water Services Association of Australia and Seqwater to provide input into submissions for each. Our submission is very brief and focussed on reinforcing support for the joint industry submission and detailed Seqwater account.
The newly drafted provisions demonstrate some evidence that ongoing industry advocacy is having an impact, although many issues remain unresolved. We would again like to acknowledge WSAA (James Goode) and Seqwater (Carmel Serratore) for the significant effort they continue to put into this work to try to reduce the public health and safety risks posed by poorly managed telecommunications installations.
Our next qldwater regional event will be held in Charters Towers on 21-22 July, hosted by Charters Towers Regional Council. The event theme will be focused on ‘Water Quality Challenges in North Queensland’.
Early bird registrations will be complimentary again for qldwater members, with a dinner planned on the evening of the 21st.
Please contact Naomi (ncarragher@qldwater.com.au) if you are interested in sponsoring this event.
The call is now open for relevant technical and other presentations to fill 20-25 minutes slots.
Presentations from qldwater members or organisations able to co-present with members will always be prioritised. We aim to make the process as easy as possible: you only need to provide us with a brief outline now and a PowerPoint by the day before the event.* Please forward your ideas to dcameron@qldwater.com.au.
Thank you to our confirmed sponsors GanDen our Dinner Sponsor and Royce Water Technologies our Gold Sponsor.
*Note we used to say “on the day” but in recent experience we’ve had some problems with corrupt USBs closing down our videoconferences so will be very keen to get organized earlier…
qldwater's Ryan Cosgrove will be presenting at this year's IPWEAQ 2021 Asset Management Symposium being held in Brisbane on the 19 & 20 May.
Ryan will be presenting on the findings of the Infrastructure Cliff research undertaken on behalf of QWRAP. In-ground network assets are the most expensive component of the roughly $40 Billion Local Government owned water and sewerage infrastructure.
Due to the nature of being buried, these assets are often ‘hidden’ meaning degradation of existing pipes is not obvious and ageing assets attract public and political attention only during major incidents. The infrastructure cliff research investigated the degradation of these assets and was designed to support the continued advocacy for better asset management and support for Local Governments.
