Repeal of Laws - Hot Water Systems & Rainwater Tanks

Repeal of Laws - Hot Water Systems & Rainwater Tanks

Repeal of Laws - Hot Water Systems & Rainwater Tanks
Date: 29-Jun-2017

In case you missed announcements last week, Minister for Housing and Public Works Tim Mander has announced that these laws will be repealed in 2013.

Rainwater tanks

This follows an independent cost-benefit analysis by the Queensland Competition Authority which determined that mandating rainwater tanks for new houses will generally outweigh the overall benefit to the community.  The QCA has recommended that local governments be able to seek approval to “opt in” to the laws where they can demonstrate that there will be a net benefit to the community.

Hot water systems

Energy efficient hot water system requirements for new and existing houses will also be repealed and the proposed national phase-out of electric hot water systems for existing homes will be discontinued in Queensland.
