The Urban Water Security Research Alliance winds up its 5 year term shortly. Its recently published annual report provides an excellent summary of the Alliance’s largely SEQ-focussed work and is available here http://www.urbanwateralliance.org.au/publications/UWSRA-Annual-Report-2011-12.pdf.
The web site includes links to a number of papers and other resources and there are more technical reports being produced over the coming months. We will endeavour to sort through both this work and that of other research organisations with an interest in urban water for the qldwater site in early 2013.Some of the research highlights include:
Total water cycle planning
Efficiency of decentralised systems
PRW
Stormwater harvesting
Climate
Evaporation loss
Water-energy nexus
Water quality monitoring technology
Residential water end use study including the “rebound” effect following significant rainfall events in 2011
Water source quality – hospital wastewater, DBPs, Bioassays, enhanced treatment and recycling, contaminants in dams, risk assessments
Demand management and communication research
Institutional change for water management
Water smart cities
Human factors in urban water system safety
