SWIMLocal Data Management Software Release

SWIMLocal Data Management Software Release
Date: 29-Jun-2017

You wanted it, you need it, now you can have it – SWIMLocal is here! qldwater is currently trialling our new data management software (aka SWIMLocal) with Cairns, Toowoomba, Cloncurry and South Burnett Regional Councils. The software is designed to assist you to  efficiently obtain, collate, export, synchronise and translate your water and sewerage data across dispersed locations via a ‘cloud-based’ system across the internet. The system includes the flexibility for organisations to create and manage new indicators relevant to you, while seamlessly linking to the SWIM database and indicators.

SWIMLocal will drastically reduce the time taken to collate data, improving the efficiency and timeliness of reporting, as well as minimising data handling (e.g. limit cutting and pasting data from one spreadsheet to another).

Some Benefits of SWIMLocal:

  1. All data is synchronised, distributed, and backed-up via the web-based SWIM server (‘the cloud’). No need for local backup procedures.
  2. Data changes are bi-directional (changes can come from operators or from system administrators) and are distributed to all users.
  3. SWIM indicators (e.g. BoM, Qld Govt, ABS and NPR indicators, definitions and metadata) are automatically updated by qldwater and made available for reporting.
  4. Any approved user can have copies of data for reporting.
  5. The software can be used and installed on computers using Windows XP or above (with hopefully no, or very limited, IT installation issues within your organisation).
  6. Simplicity of operation.

Costs: Licence fees per year: 1-3 users - $2,500, 4-10 users - $5,000, 11+ users $7,500 (as a rough guide this would likely equate to WSP’s with 10,000 < connections ($2,500); 10,000 to 50,000 connections ($5,000); and > 50,000 connections ($7,500 ) although qldwater can adjust the fees based on your use of the software and current situation. There will be a once off setup training and installation fee of $1,500 this year (note that this will increase to around $4,000 for next year). Licence fees will cover: contractor maintenance of SWIMLocal system, phone support, remote updating of SWIM indicators each year, and server/hosting costs for SWIMLocal at qldwater.

If you are interested in the SWIMLocal software or have any questions regarding it please contact David Scheltinga (dscheltinga@qldwater.com.au or 0415 881 195).
