In this edition: Message from Interim CEO| Position Available qldwater – Project Support Assistant| Environmental Protection and Other Legislation Amendment (EPOLA)| LGAQ Conference in Cairns Summary| Upcoming Fundamentals Webinar – Register Now| Positions Available – Urban Utilities
This week we have received notice that Naomi Carragher is moving on from qldwater with her last day being November 11th. I would like to acknowledge Naomi’s contributions and going above & beyond during her time at qldwater. On a personal note, since joining Naomi has been hugely supportive in helping me settle into my role and nothing has been too difficult.
We are entering a quieter time of the year for qldwater which will give us some breathing space during this rebuilding phase for the organisation. We are putting in place resourcing arrangements to support our team and our members during this challenging time.
Naomi’s position as Project Support Assistant is now being advertised on Seek. The role provides general support and administration services for qldwater, with the key focus on Event and Member management. As the first point of contact for qldwater members and the general public, we are looking for someone who will love our members as much as we do. The role is responsible for managing member communications including web sites and annual subscriptions, financial and other administrative requirements and provides general project support for the CEO and other staff.
Flexible hours and working arrangements are negotiable for the right applicant. Apply here.
The EPOLA Amendment Bill has now gone to a parliamentary committee and is now available for the public to view and open for commentary, with a very short window for feedback closing next week Wednesday 26th October at 9am.
From our initial review there have been some good wins through previous engagement with the State removing the 10 year review period for EAs and ‘uniform conditions’. The changes regarding more flexibility to allow innovative projects to occur has remained.
There are still some potential issues associated with changes to section 50, with an undue removal of Ministerial oversight of the EIS process, as well as the changes to the wording in 326 BA (1) (b). The removal of a reference to concentrations potentially opens the door to increased environmental investigations required, which would be at the cost of the EA holder.
Please refer to the parliamentary committee website for further information.
If anyone would like to provide additional feedback, please do so by 5pm on Monday 24 October to either Linda Roberts or Louise Reeves.
Qldwater, along with our LGAQ partners, represented the QWRAP program at the LGAQ Conference in Cairns this week. Our booth in the trade exhibition area attracted attention from CEOs, Mayors and other elected representatives keen to learn more or to discuss the success of the project in their regions.
On Monday afternoon, Linda Roberts presented at a Regional and Remote Communities panel session, raising the profile of water services as an essential part of liveability in all Queensland communities. Linda’s presentation highlighted the importance of a sustainable workforce to deliver the services required to provide safe drinking water – a public health requirement that deserves more attention from all levels of government.
The photo booth was a great addition to the event, and our team had a bit of fun participating – see https://gallery.wildboothco.com.au/photo/EEdVpB
As part of the LGAQ conference there were an increased number of motions relating to water, including funding, recycled water, long term water supply planning and workforce challenges.
